QUT Literary Salon

QUT Literary Salon is a monthly event where QUT alumni, students and industry guests meet and read their work to a theme.

My reading of The Undertaker's House at the March salon in 2023 (photograph by Callum Ross-Rowland)

Before 2024, I had been a reader and attendee of the QUT Literary Salon.

In an open mic in 2023, I presented my work publicly for the first time. I read an excerpt of a memoir that caught the attention of Konstanz Marie and Cieran Grieg, who, at the time, were editors of QUT Glass. That piece went on to be my first publication, The Girls & The Boys  in the Glass Winter 2023 edition. Seeing my work in print for the first time started a hunger in me to have more of my work out there and build a portfolio.

With the Lit Salon being the first space to give me a voice as a writer, I thought I would help offer that to other emerging writers. I joined the 2024 team as an editor and every month, I edit a few submissions from writers who want feedback. It's so fulfilling hearing their polished read out at an event.

Everyone should attend a Lit Salon event at least once, so go check them out.
