About Me

I started my career as a fantasy writer and now, here I am, as a memoir, autofiction and copy writer. As I went through my Creative Writing degree and got more involved in the writing community, I traded escapism for self-discovery, realising my strength was turning my own life into stories.

I try not to take myself too seriously, but read on below for how I take myself too seriously.

My Story

I'm Ricky Jade and I'm (mostly) a life writer. My experiences from childhood to even now are weird, and it’s more than enough inspiration for my writing. My nonfiction works explore race and relationship dynamics, while my fiction dives into the speculative and surreal. I tend to blur the line between fact and fiction, where I myself am not sure what to categorise my work as. But the goal is all the same, and that is to share my life and thoughts in a way that frees me and connects others. I believe the best way to give an opinion on the world is through a personal story, where one drop can tell you so much about the ocean.

As I close on my final year of my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, I say goodbye to my role on the Editorial Board at ScratchThat Magazine and editor at the QUT Literary Salon. And with that, new doors open as I work on writing some new and  juicy memoir pieces.

I am also a freelance copywriter, mostly writing content for TAC Digital, a completely woman-owned and run digital marketing firm. I plan to develop my career in marketing by day while working on my career as a writer by night.

You can find my work in ScratchThat Magazine, QUT Glass and QUT Literary Salon.
